Bansko is the most popular winter destination in Bulgaria because of its seventy kilometres ski slopes running from an altitude of 990 to 2600 metres.
Bansko as a Tourist Destination
In the past, Bansko was, and still in a way is, one of the small mountain towns where the Bulgarian traditions can be found through architecture, cuisine and lifestyle. Long before becoming an international ski destination, the town was one of Bulgaria’s most beloved winter destinations.
Walking the streets, you can feel again the local life bubbling, handcrafters making their work on the street in front of your eyes, the snow capping the mountain contrasting beautifully with the church bell tower. The reason why people like to come to Bansko is that here they can sample the traditional Bulgarian culture and hospitality but also have all the comforts they need for relaxing and having fun. And for that matter, the hotel you are staying at is very important.
In recent years, the destination starts to attract visitors all year round. Hiking, mountain biking, and spa are only a few of the activities that Bansko can propose to its visitors.
About Hotel Lucky Bansko
Hotel Lucky Bansko (Spa & Relax) was no stranger to me as a name. The hotel had a good reputation among my friends and I expected my stay to be memorable.
Driving from Sofia and arriving through one of the main streets of Bansko, it was easy to spot the hotel. Its dark-wood-coloured facade can be seen across the river. There is a sufficient parking area around the building.
Once in the lobby, I got the impression that something was missing. The staff was polite and the check-in quick. I was told about the free shuttle going to the first ski lift station every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of the day. Everything was smoothly organised, but the lobby felt dull. Something very important in hospitality is the mood space brings to its guests. A hotel should make you FEEL cosy, excited, relax, ready for adventures, amorous… anything! But to feel! The interiors of Hotel Lucky Bansko failed to make me feel anything.
Hotel Lucky Bansko Rooms
The situation in the room was the same – large, comfortable room, clean bathroom. A living room with a fireplace and a small kitchenette added space and convenience. I loved the bathroom amenities that came with the clean bathroom – a little piece of French luxury – L’Occitane! The balcony opened to a wide mountain views and we enjoyed sipping from our morning coffee there. Yet, inside the interior was in the same dull brown colours.
I loved the good Wi-Fi and the comfortable work desk, so important for my work.
At breakfast, I saw a notice claiming “We offer the best breakfast in Bansko”. It just might be true. For a gluten-intolerant traveller like me, I had plenty of choices. And as a coffee snob, I can say that coffee was good too!
My favourite place in the hotel was Leonardo, a gourmet restaurant with a delightful interior, perfect service and prices that correspond to its high standard.
Your Active Holidays in Bansko, Bulgaria
Your holidays in Bansko can be full of action and usefulness. I believe the most important reason why you should choose Lucky Bansko Spa and Relax, is the great choice of activities they offer in all seasons. I was impressed by their devotion to go from just the standard offerings of a high-standard hotel to make it an “active” hotel. A place where people come to create memories not only indulge in doing nothing. These are some of the programs that Hotel Lucky Bansko organises for its guests:
LuckyFit Program is a combination of a healthy diet (without starvation, as the hotel’s site points out) and entertaining physical activities combined with relaxation time. Mountain hikes, horse-riding, yoga, Chinese gymnastics and weight training are part of this program. There are five package programs so check them out to see which one fits your needs the best.
The Ayurveda Clinic Lucky Bansko is the first Indian Ayurveda centre of its kind in Bulgaria. Read more of what it is and what can do for your body and health following the link above.
14-days full of different games and mountain activities combined with an intense course of English language can create happy memories for your child. LuckyKids is organised in the months of June, July and August.
The yoga courses at Lucky Bansko are organized four times per year. In May, July, September and November you can join the course and have fun with a lot of different activities, not only yoga. Mountain hikes, massages, horseback riding and picnic in the mountains, as well as dances, are also included in the program.
These are the main activity programs that the hotel offers but not all! You can also have psychological training, enjoy the outdoor pool or get lost in the Escape Rooms. And if you are in a mood of an active day, you can always submerge in the seductive spa world in Lucky Bansko.
