In Italy when it comes to chocolate delicacies people always look first to Piedmont. For this recipe, we are going to Tortona, a small town in the southeastern region of the province. Here, a century and a half ago, have been created “women’s kisses” – tiny chocolate cookies with almonds that once roasted, are glued two by two, often with little chocolate. These cookies are Ideal for every coffee break. Legend says that “Baci di dama” were created to a delight of King Victor Emmanuel II.
300 g almonds
260 g flour
125g dark chocolate
1 vanilla powder
Grind the almonds in the mill. Add the sugar, flour, vanilla and butter (soft and diced). With hands knead a soft dough ball but do not overdo the kneading – is enough just to form the dough.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and prepare a flat tray covered with baking paper. Form little balls with your hands. Bake them for 15 minutes, remove them from the oven and allow cooling.
Cut natural chocolate of good quality into pieces and melt it in a water bath. Use it to glue the cookies two by two.
The traditional recipe uses natural chocolate, but if you prefer can use milk or white chocolate you can use it too. You can also add a little cocoa dough in half of the dough and you will have dichromatic cookies.
